Sequencing
- Customer completed reactions (user prep)
- Sequencing reactions performed by BRF (core prep)
Genotyping
- Fragment analysis
Tip
The quality of the data is determined by the quality and quantity of the DNA template and primer that you use. Sample cleanup is critical as large excess Big Dye blobs will saturate the signal, and salt will prevent correct electrokinetic injection.

How to order
1. Complete the Microsoft Forms for order submission
In 2026, the previous order submission system dnaLIMS, is officially retired, and we are moving forward with a submission system using Microsoft Forms. You can access this Sanger sequencing request form from 1st January, 2026. Please follow the prompt to answer all the required questions. Once you submit this form, please fill out the sample detail spreadsheet and send it back to us. The information you provide on this sample detail spreadsheet is critical for us to determine the reaction conditions, and thus, please provide the information on time to avoid any delays.
The external users may be unable to access the sample detail spreadsheet through SharePoint. Please download the spreadsheet from the weblink below:
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any issues accessing the Sanger sequencing request form or the sample detail spreadsheet at: dnaseq@anu.edu.au.
2. Drop off samples
ANU clients with access to JCSMR can drop off their samples in the freezer located in the Sample Drop Off room (2.043).
Clients without access to JCSMR can drop off their samples at the freezer located at the JCSMR stores at the back of the building. This is available between 8:30am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 4:00pm.
If you are posting samples, please use Express Post bags and wrap samples in bubble wrap to protect tubes. Please address your package to:
The Biomolecular Resource Facility (BRF)
The John Curtin School of Medical Research
Building 131
Floor Dock off Garran Road
The Australian National University
Canberra ACT 2601
3. Get your results
ANU customers will receive sequencing files (.ab1 and .seq) via email. Please make sure to update your email in dnaLIMS as your result will be sent there. CSIRO and UC customers can download results by login onto their dnaLIMS accounts.
