Professor Si Ming Man recognised among the world’s most highly cited researchers

Professor Si Ming Man from the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) has been named among the world’s top 1% of researchers for the fourth time, according to the prestigious Highly Cited Researchers List by Clarivate.

This annual list, published by the global analytics company Clarivate, highlights researchers whose work ranks in the top 1% of the Web of Science citation index. This year’s list includes 6,636 researchers from over 1,200 institutions across 59 countries and regions.

A lead scientist in the Division of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at JCSMR, Professor Man heads the Innate Immunity and Inflammasomes research group. He was previously included on the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers List in 2020, 2022, and 2023.

Professor Man’s academic journey began at UNSW Sydney, where he earned a Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) in Microbiology in 2007 and a Master of Science in Biochemistry in 2009. He completed his PhD in Immunology at the University of Cambridge, UK, and pursued postdoctoral research on inflammation in infectious diseases and cancer at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA.

Since joining JCSMR in 2017, Professor Man has established a distinguished research group at ANU. His accolades include the 2023 Australian Academy of Science Gottschalk Medal, the 2022 Frank Fenner Prize for Life Scientist of the Year (Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science), and the 2019 Commonwealth Health Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Health and Medical Research.

Last year, Professor Man was honoured with the 2023 UNSW Alumni Award for Research and Teaching Achievement and elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales.
