Aging and Mental and Physical Health: A Genetically Informed Perspective

Abstract

Understanding mental and physical health in the context of aging remains a major priority because many people are living longer lives.  A key question is: how can we promote healthy aging, considering both genetic propensities toward health vs. illness, and cumulative life experiences?  I will review our program of research in this area, focusing on research connected with the Midlife in the US (MIDUS) study, a longitudinal study of health and aging in a representative sample from the U.S.
