Understanding the role of matrix protein signalling in health and diseasen

Hosted by: Associate Professor Simon Jiang

Abstract

Extracellular matrix proteins were initially thought to provide only structural integrity, but recent work has clarified their role in cell signalling and stress responses. This talk will focus on thrombospondin-1 and its high affinity receptor CD47, and their (patho)physiological role across many organs.

Biography

Professor Natasha Rogers is currently Head of Transplantation at Westmead Hospital, Professor of Nephrology and Transplantation at the University of Sydney and Co-Director of the Centre for Transplantation and Renal Research at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. After returning from postdoctoral and faculty appointments at the University of Pittsburgh's Starzl Transplant Institute and establishing her independent laboratory, she has received continuous NHMRC funding since 2018, totalling >$10M in support.
