Using CRISPR screens to investigate host defense to biological threats.

Hosted by: Dr Rippei Hayashi

Abstract: In this talk, Professor Greg Neely will discuss his team’s recent application of pooled CRISPR KO and activation screening to help understand mechanisms of actin for painful venoms and SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Biography: Professor Greg Neely completed his PhD in human immunology (AIDS related pathogens) at the University of Calgary, Canada (2004) and went on to train in functional genomics of pain at IMBA in Vienna, Austria (2003-2010). Since 2011 he has been running a lab in Sydney Australia and he is currently based at the Charles Perkins Center at the University of Sydney. His lab uses pooled CRISPR screening to investigate human cell biology with a focus on cellular mechanisms controlling pain.
