Description
Exploring Immunity Through Human Subjects
Hosted by: Asscociate Professor Anselm Enders
Abstract
The Romberg lab’s works leverages patients with rare inborn errors of immunity and in vitro human systems like tonsillar or bone marrow organoids to explore fundamental human immunologic processes including leukopoiesis and germinal center regulation.
Biography
Dr. Romberg is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and the Jeffrey Modell Endowed Chair of Pediatric Immunology Research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His research career has focused primarily on the regulatory mechanisms enabling our immune systems to fight infections without inflicting collateral damage. His lab is particularly interested in the immune systems, genetics, and lives of patients with inborn errors of immunity–who are susceptible to both life-threatening infections and inflammatory diseases. Greater insights into these rare diseases gained from studying human subjects and leveraging human-derived experimental systems may enable rationale development of targeted therapies for more common diseases with an immunologic basis.
