18 September 2026 SDCRI’s first Work-In-Progress Research Clinic

The SDCRI WIP Research Clinic is all about bringing together students and ECRs working across the broad and exciting world of RNA research, from fundamental RNA biology and molecular mechanisms through to RNA technologies, therapeutics, bioinformatics and computational biology.

What's the idea?

We want to create a relaxed, supportive and collaborative space where researchers can share their RNA-related work-in-progress, receive constructive feedback and have some great scientific discussions together.

RNA research is incredibly diverse . Whether your work involves wet-lab RNA biology,  RNA bioinformatics, computational biology, RNA therapeutics, transcriptomics, RNA technologies, or a combination of these, we would love to hear what you are working on.

The research doesn't need to fit neatly into one area of RNA biology either, the aim is to bring together the breadth of RNA-focused research across the RNA community.

What should I present?

These sessions are not about presenting a polished or finished story.

In fact, we particularly encourage early-stage RNA projects and work-in-progress!

The WIP Research Clinic is an opportunity to:

• Share a new RNA research idea
• Discuss exciting preliminary results
• Troubleshoot experimental or computational challenges
• Test new hypotheses and research directions
• Receive feedback from researchers with different RNA expertise
• Learn about the diverse RNA science happening across our community

Whether you just started exploring an idea, have an experiment that is not behaving as expected, are developing a new computational approach, or have some exciting preliminary RNA data you would like another perspective? Bring it along! 

We hope these sessions will spark new collaborations, inspire fresh ideas and provide a friendly environment to refine projects before conferences, lab meetings, manuscripts or grant applications.

What does a WIP talk look like?

Each session will feature a few short presentations, followed by plenty of time for discussion, questions and brainstorming.

There is no expectation of a polished seminar or formal slide deck!

A whiteboard, a few sketches, some preliminary RNA data, or just a handful of slides are perfectly fine. 

The emphasis is on conversation, collaboration and bringing together different perspectives across the RNA research community to help move our science forward.

Coffee + RNA Science = The Perfect Combo!

What is a good scientific discussion without coffee? 

We will be providing coffee and breakfast/morning tea snacks, so come along, grab something to eat, meet fellow students and ECRs and enjoy some fun conversations about RNA science .
