Protein technology

Proteins are vital parts of living organisms, as they are the main components of the physiological metabolic pathways of cells. The study of proteins is called proteomics, a word coined in 1997 to make an analogy with genomics, the study of genes. The BRF provides several services and instruments to further the study of proteins.

Proteins are vital parts of living organisms, as they are the main components of the physiological metabolic pathways of cells. The study of proteins is called proteomics, a word coined in 1997 to make an analogy with genomics, the study of genes. The BRF provides several services and instruments to further the study of proteins.

The Protein Technology Advisory Committee recently conducted a survey of academics on campus to better understand the types of protein studies occurring and to give researchers the opportunity to tell us what additional services and equipment would be most helpful to their work.  The responses indicate that there is a wide variety of research occurring at ANU based on the study of proteins.  It may be possible to expand the range of protein services offered by the BRF and this is being considered by the committee.

Services

Shared laboratory equipment

The BRF houses and maintains a shared laboratory, containing various equipment for DNA, RNA and protein QC, plate imaging, immunoassays, sequencing and more. We provide training for these instruments, and onsell reagents and consumables for ease of use.
