Managing CD8+ T cell identity

Professor Hai-Hui Xue, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa, USA

CD8+ T cells are dedicated cytotoxic lymphocytes, and their identity must be tightly regulated during development and activation processes. The underlying mechanisms involve both transcriptional and epigenetic regulators. The interplay of Tcf, Runx and Tle factors will be discussed.

Dr. Hai-Hui (Howard) Xue is a Professor of Microbiology and Immunity at the University of Iowa, USA. He obtained his Ph.D., majoring in biochemistry, in Japan and did postdoctoral training in molecular immunology at the National Institutes of Health, USA.

His research laboratory is interested in transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of T cell development in thymus, and T cell differentiation in response to viral infection. His recent work focuses on the Wnt-T cell factor 1 pathway and has revealed its multifaceted functions from programming memory T cell formation and controlling self-renewal of leukemic stem cells.
