The Responsibilities of Co- Supervisors or Advisors

- Knowledge of the rules and regulations

- Early in the candidature;
- Advising on any supplementary training (eg English-as-a-second-language).
- Making sure they understand the supervisory arrangements,
their own responsibilities and the scope and facets of the project.
- Arrangement of regular contact with the student,
which should be expected and maintained by both.
- Provision of resources, and instruction for the
safe and ethical progress of that portion of the project they are
concerned with.
- Advising on requirements for the retention of
primary data, on Intellectual Property and the restrictions if research
is funded by a contractual arrangement.
- Participating in the meeting for the 3-month
review.
- During the remaining candidature;
- Discussion and agreement on publication arising
from a thesis.
- Advice on contacts with other researchers.
- Participating in the First Year Review.
- Encouraging participation in the intellectual
activity of the School eg by attendance and presentations at seminars,
workshops and conferences.
- Conference support and encouragement, including
reviewing written or oral work.
- Reviewing written work during the course of the
project and before submission of thesis.
- Advising the candidate, throughout the candidature,
on prizes and awards, post-doctoral or visiting fellow appointments,
and other career options.
- Participating in the discussion and agreement
on appointment of examiners and on the examiners requirements during
the revision process.
