You are responsible for
1. Knowing the Rules for your degree, the Guidelines for the Responsible
Practice of Research, the Guidelines for Supervision, and the Intellectual
Property Guidelines;

2. Arrangement for regular contact with your supervisor, which should
be expected and maintained by both. This should be at least once a month.
3. Clarification of your mutual expectations; supervisory arrangements,
and the operation of your supervisory panel. You and the chair of your
supervisory panel should establish guidelines for your course;
4. In consultation with your supervisor, preparing a research plan and
timetable as the basis for a three-year program of study, for the three
months Review meeting;
5. Actively engaging in the research course in a manner likely to produce
significant results and devoting at least 40 hours per week on average
to your research course (if full time);
6. Submitting written work to your supervisor in accordance with a pre-arranged
and agreed schedule;
7. Participating in the intellectual life of your Department through
activities such as attendance and presentations at departmental seminars
and conferences;
8. Reporting to your supervisor and Prescribed Authority any significant
change in other commitments, proposed period of suspension of candidature,
or attendance at another institution which is likely to affect your
progress;
9. Submitting a progress report each year;
10. Submitting a First Annual Review of Progress;
11. Attending health and safety training courses as required, adopting
safe working practices, and adhering to ethical practices at all times;
12. Negotiating with your supervisor appropriate recognition of your
respective contributions in any joint publications that arise;
13. Submitting, with at least two months notice, to the Research and
Scholarships Office your intention to submit, providing the final title
of the thesis, with an abstract of approximately 250-500 words describing
its content;
14. Producing the final copies of your thesis for the examiners, and
ensuring that its content and standard of presentation is in accordance
with University requirements.
