Autonomic Neuroeffector Transmission Laboratory

Group

Our main interest is the functioning of the autonomic nervous system in mammals.

In particular, our work involves recording the electrical activity of smooth and cardiac muscles during nervous system stimulation.

Current Research Projects

Our current work is related to the NHMRC project 'Control of gastrointestinal motility by interstitial cells and neuronal projections'. The aim of the project is to determine the role of interstitial cells in the initiation of myogenic activity in the gastric antrum, how interstitial cells are coupled to smooth muscle cells, what their role is in neuroeffector transmission in the gut, how their activity is influenced by changes in the internal concentration of calcium ions and the development of analytical stimulation to describe the generation of pacemaker activity.
