TIC Seminar - Next-Generation Evolutionary Biology Using Last Generation's Mathematics

One of the big challenges for biomathematicians is the design of models which can capture the wide range of evolutionary processes and yet be computationally and statistically tractable. I will discuss recent progress in this area, with a particular focus on methods we have developed for evolutionary analysis of multi-species genomic data.
We have taken classical methods from `steam engine' applied mathematics and are in the process of mutating them into a flexible and efficient framework for model-based inference in evolutionary biology.
