Springer-Nature Speaker - Increasing the Value of Your Publication

Dr Thijs van Vlijmen, Senior Publishing Editor, Springer-Nature Publishing House

Publishing is a key requirement for any academic’s career progression. In the modern age the number of available journals is staggering (sometimes bewildering) and information overload resulting from the sheer quantity of published content can often prevent your quality article rising above a sea of mediocre ones. Increasingly, getting your paper published is now only part of the process of communicating scientific knowledge, with post publication promotion being an essential tool in the modern scientist’s armamentarium. During this presentation I will present some non-obvious strategies, both on how to get your next paper published in a quality journal, and also how to get your next paper noticed and read by the appropriate target audience. Topics that will be discussed include journal selection, tailoring of abstracts, titles and keywords for database recognition, followed by a description of essential tools for post publication promotion, including open access and sharing options along with scientific blogging and social media strategies.
