The Curtin Circle is made up of people who have informed us directly, or through their legal representative, that they have included the JCSMR as a beneficiary in their Will.

In 2003 with the assistance and sponsorship of the Office of the Public Trustee for the ACT, we have been able to produce a brochure that outlines the correct legal procedure and wording to use when making such a generous intent known.

When making a bequest, it is important to use the correct legal wording. Here is an example of the recommended style:

"I give, devise and bequeath to the "John Curtin School of Medical Research" for the general purpose of research into ..... (Research area)
(A) the whole of my estate of whatever kind and whosoever situate
(B) % of my estate: and/or,
(C) the sum of $ .

and I declare that the receipt of the Director and/or other officer for the time being of the said The John Curtin School of Medical Research shall be sufficient discharge of my trustees".

Note
Whichever of the above is chosen, the following should be included: "subject to the payment of all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and all duties, taxes and charges payable on my estate at my death".

Wills and Codicils must be in writing, signed by the Testator, and attested by two witnesses in the presence of the Testator.
