Professor Frank Fenner - Director of the John Curtin School from 1967 to 1973 - is well known for his work with viruses and for his part in the global eradication of smallpox. When unveiling the portrait, commissioned by the School, the Minister for Health, Michael Wooldridge described Professor Fenner as "a great Australian", "a great tall poppy".

The portrait will be located in the boardroom of the John Curtin School's new building.
